First 5 Friday - Summer Camping Fun

Happy First 5 Friday! Here is a great way to start off your weekend as you READ, TALK and PLAY with your little ones!


READ: Start off your weekend as you read “Llama Llama Loves Camping” by Anna Dewdney with your little ones! Do you have a fun camping memory? If so, be sure to share your memory with your little ones as you read.



TALK: Take this time to talk to your little one about the outdoors and what they think about “Llama Llama Loves Camping” by Anna Dewdney.


Suggested questions to get the conversation started for all ages:

  • Have you ever been camping?

  • Do you think camping would be fun?

  • What is your favorite thing to do outside?

PLAY: Camping is a great time to roast marshmallows by the fire, but did you know marshmallows can be used for many other things? Start off the weekend with your little one as they paint with marshmallows!


Paint With Marshmallows:

Materials Needed:

  • Paper plate or cups for paint

  • Paint

  • Sticks (from the yard, popsicle sticks, skewers, toothpicks, whichever you prefer)

  • White paper

  • Marshmallows


How to Paint with Marshmallows:

  1. Pour paint onto a paper plate or into cups.

  2. Put a marshmallow on a stick. You will need to do this one time for every color of paint you have.

  3. Dip your marshmallow into the paint.

  4. Place your painted marshmallow on the white piece of paper and paint away!

  5. Enjoy your marshmallow painting.

*Warning! Make sure your little one does not eat the paint covered marshmallow.
