First 5 Friday - What is a caterpillar thankful for?

Happy First 5 Friday! Here is a great way to start off your weekend as you READ, TALK and PLAY with your little ones!


READ: Start off your weekend as you read "Thanks From The Very Hungry Caterpillar" by Eric Carle. If you were a caterpillar, what would you be thankful for?

PLAY: Are you ready to make your own caterpillar? Follow the directions below to help your little one make a caterpillar!

Materials Needed:

  • Paper Plate

  • Green Pipe Cleaners

  • Green Construction Paper

  • Crayons, Markers or Colored Pencils

  • Scissors

  • Glue

  • Black Marker

How to Make a Caterpillar:

  1. Cut your paper plate in half.

  2. Cut the ribbed edge off of half of the paper plate.

  3. Color the ribbed edge of the plate however you would like.

  4. Cut a circle out of the green construction paper.

  5. Draw a smiley face on the green circle.

  6. Glue the green circle to the colored ribbed edge of the plate.

  7. Cut the pipe cleaners into smaller sections, around 2 inches.

  8. Glue the pipe cleaners to the top of the green circle to represent antennas.

  9. Wiggle your creation around like a caterpillar!
